Stand-by + portable generators
Standby Generators
A standby generator functions as a power source when a power outage occurs. The generator transfer switch senses the outage and automatically sends a signal to the generator to engage. The generator takes on the electrical load of the dwelling; therefore, providing power to household appliances such as: refrigerators, water heaters and stoves, HVAC, security systems, etc.
Once power has returned, the transfer switch is activated and transfers the power back to the main electrical system (utility power.) The transfer switch automatically turns to standby waiting for the next power outage.
Generators usually perform self-tests throughout the week to ensure they are ready to take on the power supply during an outage. Kratt Electric, Inc. will provide the following when installing a generator:
- Sizing of generator to support homes electrical needs
- Location of generator
- Routing/installation of electrical service
- Automatic transfer switch
- Local code and requirements of installation
- Dealership pricing
- Natural gas or propane routing / installation
- 100% completion of project
Portable Generators
A portable generator is gas or diesel-fueled engine. It provides temporary electrical power during a power outage. The difference between a standby generator and a portable generator is the amount of power that is measured.
A portable generator measures power in hours instead of days like the standby generator. The portable generator will need to be manually taken to the location of an installed sub panel or an exterior receptacle that will feed the sub panel.
Either the sub panel or exterior receptacle will be installed by our electricians with the full purpose of feeding the appropriate circuits chosen by the homeowner that serve importance during a power outage such as: refrigerators, water heaters, stoves, HVAC, lighting, security systems, etc. Circuitry will be balanced in importance to the function of engine.
Kratt Electric, Inc. will complete a full analysis of home and circuitry in order to recommend an appropriate standby or portable generator. Kratt Electric, Inc. will choose a suitable location and route for all new equipment to be installed. If a portable generator is chosen, Kratt Electric, Inc. will balance circuitry chosen by customer.
