Swimming pool wiring
A pool is a great addition to your home, but many people do not know the extensive wiring that is involved in bringing your pool installation to NEC Standards keeping it working efficiently and safe.
There are many areas that need to be capitalized on when installing a pool.
GFI Protection
All pumps and such equipment including lighting will need to be GFI protected while all wiring, conduits, fittings and box including cover will need to be weatherproofed ensuring safety and protection of live parts and devices.
Bonding
All metal parts of your pool and equipment must be bonded together using solid #8 bare copper. All bonding parts must be non-corrosive.
Depth of wiring
UF cable and Electrical PVC needs to be 18’’ deep, while EMT conduit needs to be 6’’ deep. These requirements are per the National Electrical Code Standards.
Pool Receptacles
You must install one convenience receptacle no closer than 6’ and no further than 20’ from the pool edge. This receptacle must be dedicated.
